The Organisation

"STARTTS is a not-for-profit Affiliated Health Organisation focused on providing a broad range of services to refugees in NSW. The focus of STARTTS approach is on building capacity and empowering people and communities to take control over their own lives, using a strengths-based approach and building on individual, family, community and cultural strengths."

The Role

This role is part of a unique program that aims to provide appropriate psychosocial supports to refugees and asylum seekers who are experiencing psychological distress, mental ill health and impaired functioning.

You will engage with refugee communities in the relevant regions to ensure that they are aware of the program and its referral pathways as well as contribute towards building community capacity to support CLSR clients. The position will also support the Senior CLSR Client Support Worker to promote CLSR services.

The successful applicant will be part of a multicultural and multi-disciplinary team.

Skills Required

  • You will have relevant qualifications as per the Position Description.
  • An understanding of mental health issues affecting refugees and the effects of torture and experience in community development work.
  • Experience in planning, implementing and evaluating groups in a cross-cultural context. You will also have the ability and willingness to travel within the relevant regions.
  • You will be a highly motivated person with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively within a multicultural and multidisciplinary team setting.

Position No: 1146-6

Work Type: 1 Full-time role 38 hours per week & 1 Part-time role 20 hours per week. Contract up to 1 year

Location: Auburn and Carramar

Salary: Health Education Officer or other relevant classification based on qualifications, experience and requirements of the role.

A generous salary packaging scheme is also offered to reduce the taxable income and increase the take home pay.
