LOCUM MATERNITY LEAVE POSITION

IMMEDIATE START TO 21 JANUARY 2022

  • Part-time – 21 hours per week (days negotiable)
  • Salary and Conditions – Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award (SCHCADS) Level 4/5
  • Pay Rate dependant on qualifications and experience

The position is funded by the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ).

About the Opportunity

As a member of the Greenacre Area Community Centre staff team, the role of Family Support Worker is to:

Work with the target group to provide a range of targeted early intervention (TEI) services. Target groups include: children 0-5, children 6-18, younger parents, single parents and CALD communities.

You will offer intake and assessment, case work, referrals and support, mentoring and parenting education to families with children aged 0–18 years, capacity building programs and individual and family counselling. This position also requires you to organise and run peer support groups and to work with our Supported Playgroup team for 2 hours each week.

If you are passionate about working with vulnerable communities to make a difference, this role has lots of variety and enables you to be creative and to work in partnership with local organisations, schools and with local networks and interagency groups.

Essential Criteria

  • Formal graduate qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or other relevant disciplines
  • Demonstrated community services sector experience
  • Experience in casework, case management and in providing support, referrals and follow up
  • Experience in providing generalist counselling services with children, families and young people
  • Experience in planning, delivering and evaluating parenting programs, information sessions and training etc relevant to families and young people
  • Knowledge and experience in group processes and facilitation, especially with vulnerable families and young people
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and how it relates to the care and protection of children
  • Sound understanding of community networks and ability to utilise them effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work independently and contribute to the team’s goals
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence and access to a vehicle

Desirable Criteria

  • Fluency in a second relevant community language
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Knowledge of current Work Health and Safety legislation.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body

Other Information

Having a current Working with Children Check is a requirement of this position
