ACON Testing Services are here to help gay, bi and queer men stay safe. Working with our partners, a[TEST] provides rapid HIV testing, sexual health screening and health promotion to help men make informed decision around their sexual health.

Community Health Promotion Officer - Testing Services

 

ACON is a community based health promotion organisation specialising in HIV prevention, HIV support and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) health. Established in 1985 as the AIDS Council of NSW, we’re here to end HIV transmission among gay and homosexually active men, and promote the lifelong health of people of diverse sexualities and genders and people living with HIV. We are based in Sydney with regional offices and outreach officers providing services across NSW.

ACON is offering an exciting opportunity for two dynamic individuals inspired to join a small health promotion team in our a[TEST] service. A Community Health Promotion Officer in ACON’s Testing Services provides peer and community-based rapid HIV testing, which plays a crucial role in reaching the goals and targets within the NSW HIV Strategy.

As a Community Health Promotion Officer, you will work closely with the Operations Manager, Testing Services to drive key elements of the community engagement program on HIV testing, as well as hold responsibilities for client service delivery in these areas.

As part of a diverse and multidisciplinary team of health promotion professionals you’ll provide peer and community-based rapid HIV testing and other testing services to:

-       Explain, administer, read and provide results of rapid HIV tests to gay men and other same sex attracted men.

-       Provide community health promotion on HIV combination prevention strategies.

-       Assist with the coordinating, staffing, planning, scheduling and supporting all a[TEST] activities, including delivery and collection of materials, rostering of staff, and client communications.

-       Assess, develop and market testing services that meet prevention goals and the needs of gay men.

-       Liaise with partner organisations to ensure best practice clinical delivery of community based, HIV and STI testing.

-       Continually build and enhance partnerships with agencies and external service providers to ensure effective responses to community issues.

 

There are two positions being advertised. The first position is full-time, 35 hours a week and based in Sydney. The second position is part-time, 21 hours a week (negotiable) and based in Sydney. The role may also require working evenings up until 8pm, at least weekly, and some Saturdays.

Salary: $72-80K pro rata (total remuneration package including superannuation and leave loading). You may also elect to salary package a portion of your salary (up to $30,000 gross-up value) tax-free.
