Showcasing Local Talent

November 26, 2021 @ 9:00 am - March 31, 2022 @ 5:00 pm

Art Exhibition – Water Nourishes, Water Connects

At our 2021 AGM, NCOSS celebrated the hard work of our sector organisations who provide essential, frontline services in their local communities. Especially those in West and South West Sydney, who lived through Sydney’s harshest lockdowns and kept their diverse communities safe and connected. Our venue was the fabulous Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.

The COVID-19 pandemic also hit the NSW arts community hard. So many gigs were cancelled, performances postponed, and exhibitions closed part way through their run. Or didn’t get to open at all.

So we’re supporting an emerging artist from one of the 11 “LGAs of concern” with a $1,000 grant to help her pay the bills and continue to make her art. She is Jessie Waratah, Gamilaraay and Warlpiri woman, and Canterbury-Bankstown local living on Gadigal-Bediagal land. Jessie is also actively involved in our sector.

We also showcased some of her work at our AGM and Celebrating the Sector! event on Friday, 26 November 2021.

You can visit the virtual exhibition here, which will run till 31 January 2021. Her beautiful works are for sale and all proceeds go to the artist. Jessie also takes commissions, so get in touch at jessiewaratah@gmail.com.

This grant and this exhibition are being sponsored by SydWest Multicultural Services in partnership with NCOSS. We’re also grateful to the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre for donating the space in the Turbine Hall, where we held Jessie’s exhibition for our Celebrating the Sector! event.
