Interview with NSW Council of Social Services CEO Joanna Quilty (ABC Radio Sydney, Breakfast)
NSW Council of Social Services CEO Joanna Quilty says it's looking more positive that the Government will extend the JobSeeker and JobKeeper schemes although it's unclear whether there will be an increase to Newstart. She says the NCOSS is calling on the Government to permanently increase the allowance from the daily $40 rate. She states the JobSeeker supplement increased the Newstart to $1100 per two weeks which greatly helped vulnerable people with basic needs. She notes a possible increase of $10 a day won't be enough. Quilty says there's broad support from across every sector to increase the Newstart allowance.
