Defining 'Community Development'

The Australian Institute of Family Studies have released an information sheet: What is community development? It differentiates community development from community-based work by explaining that it is a process where community members are supported by agencies to identify and take collective action on issues which are important to them. It is goes beyond involving the community to enabling the community to lead the work.  Community development empowers community members and creates stronger and more connected communities.
