Assistant Principal Solicitor/Legal Practice Supervisor - Contract Position for 12 months

WSCLC is currently recruiting for a Senior Solicitor for the role of Assistant Principal Solicitor/Legal Practice Supervisor.

  • A commitment to social justice, strong management and demonstrated compliance skills.
  • Legal experience in Employment Law.
  • Skills and experience to professionally supervise a legal practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to manage aspects of legal practice and to work with clients and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Eligibility to hold a NSW Practising Certificate to practice as a Principal of a law practice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To support the Principal Solicitor in the management and professional supervision of the legal practice in developing and maintaining excellence in the legal practice.
  2. To direct and assist solicitors in the provision of legal services.
  3. As the Nominated Person (defined in the CLC Risk Management Guide) the Legal Practice Supervisor will supervise the legal practice in the absence of the Principal Solicitor. 
  4. To contribute to the production of information required for Board and funding reports.
  5. To provide high quality telephone, face to face and written legal advice, advocacy, information, referral, casework and representation to clients.
  6. Be informed of legal, procedural and policy developments relevant to the position.

This position reports to the Principal Solicitor.

Western Sydney Community Legal Centre (WSCLC) is the largest CLC in NSW addressing significant legal and community needs across a geographically and culturally diverse community.

 

WSCLC’s legal team comprises of a Community Justice Civil Practice, a Family Relationships Practice, an Outreach Practice, a Care & Protection Early Intervention Practice, a Home Building Advocacy Service and Student Legal Services Practice in affiliation with the University of Western Sydney.

Position details
Essential Selection Criteria:
  1. Eligibility for a NSW Practising Certificate to practice as a principal of a law practice.
  2. Demonstrated ability to manage the compliance aspect of a legal practice.
  3. A strong understanding of professional and ethical obligations and risk management.
  4. Ideally six years of Post admission experience including litigation and advocacy. However, relevant experience less than 6 years will be considered.
  5. Demonstrated ability to deliver timely, effective and high quality casework and representation to clients.
  6. Demonstrated ability to deliver effective, high quality telephone legal information and advice to clients in plain language.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
  8. Excellent computer literacy.
  9. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  10. Demonstrated commitment to social justice.
  11. Demonstrated knowledge of barriers faced by the priority client groups within the Western Sydney catchment.
  12. Current driver’s licence and availability of own comprehensively insured motor vehicle for work use.
Desirable Selection Criteria:
  1. Employment Law experience
  2. Experience with CLASS
Other Information:

Remuneration is based on : 

Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services (SCHCADS) Industry Award 2010, Level 7 Pay point negotiable ($50.77 per hour - $53.03 per hour) 
(plus 9.5% Superannuation and optional Salary Packaging)
