Carer Representation Program Officer / Policy Officer

This position is responsible for delivering the Carers NSW Carer Representation Program, including recruiting, training and supporting a diverse network of carer representatives and liaising with carers and other stakeholders to facilitate representation opportunities. It is also responsible for undertaking research and policy analysis on issues affecting carers; liaising with program stakeholders (carers, government and non-government agencies, other organisations and Carers NSW programs) to ensure that carers are considered in policy and program development within NSW and nationally.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
•    Recruit a diverse range of new carer representatives, reflecting trends in carer representative requests and the overall diversity of the carer population.
•    Build and maintain positive working relationships with current and potential carer representatives, offering support and development opportunities.
•    Deliver training to induct newly recruited carer representatives. 
•    Undertake research and policy analysis on issues affecting carers.
•    Develop appropriate policy responses as required.
•    Represent Carers NSW in advisory bodies and other forums.
•    Undertake, or contribute to, research on carers for Carers NSW or in partnership with other organisations.

Qualifications:

The successful applicant will have qualifications in Social or Political Science, Public Health or other relevant areas, with demonstrated research skills, including the ability to collate data and formulate policy statements and responses to sector inquiries.

Essential Selection Criteria:

•    Qualifications in Social or Political Science, Public Health or other relevant areas.
•    Understanding of NSW and Australian Government policy development. 
•    Demonstrated ability to represent Carers NSW policy positions and to speak publicly.
•    Proven track record in liaising and building effective relationships with government, non-government and community organisations.
•    Strong networking skills. 
•    Ability to undertake and manage specific projects, delivering project objectives within identified timeframes.
•    Demonstrated research skills, including the ability to collate data and formulate policy statements and responses to sector inquiries.
•    Demonstrated skills in preparing reports and other documents to a high standard.
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•    Excellent computer skills.
•    Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
 

Desirable Selection Criteria:

•    Relevant experience working in ageing, disability, carer or health related areas. 
•    Skills, or the willingness to develop skills, in development, facilitation, presentation and the evaluation of guest speaking and awareness training for Carers Representatives.
•    Demonstrated experience in providing policy advice or direction to government, non-government or community organisations.
•    Understanding of current NSW and Australian Government policies and inquiries relating to carers and the people they provide care for.
•    Experience in consumer representation either as a representative or knowledge developed in an organisation with a consumer representation program or focus.
•    Understanding of needs of specific carer population groups, including Young carers and CALD carers, and a commitment to carers.

Other Information:

The Annual Salary Package is between $81 – $86K including superannuation. You will also have access to generous salary sacrificing benefits and professional development opportunities.

A criminal record check and Working with Children Check will be required as a condition of employment.
