RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organise in-person and online capacity building and engagement opportunities for the Youth Sector, booking venues, teleconferences, speakers, creating session formats, presentations, handling registrations and payments, collating feedback, and responding to enquiries via phone and email
  • Organise all aspects of in-person and online outreach and consultation opportunities with a diverse range of young people across NSW, collating their ideas and experiences to inform the work of the organisation
  • Coordinate the communities of practice, including the Forum of Youth Development Officers (FYDO) and the Local Government Youth Development Network (LGYDN) email networks
  • Produce proposals and applications for project opportunities in support of the work of the organisation, and coordinate the delivery and accountability of these projects
  • Report on progress, timelines, and results of capacity building and engagement activity with the youth sector and young people to the General Manager
  • Nurture and build ongoing relations with young people and Sector stakeholders, seeking opportunities to support one another’s work

Essential Criteria

  • A tertiary qualification in relevant social services disciplines, such as social work, youth work, and community services
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in capacity building and engagement in the youth and community services sector
  • Confident technical skills using a range of online systems for teleconferencing, surveying, producing and publishing digital content, and working in a Windows environment using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, SharePoint and PowerPoint
  • Ability to follow internal policies and procedures, approval processes, work under direction, respond well to feedback, contribute to teamwork, administration duties, and maintain a professional friendly manner
  • Ability to work in an agile environment, where it is important to be organised, change priorities regularly, meeting competing deadlines, and always be learning
  • Professional communication skills, both with external stakeholders and internal colleagues

  • Either hold a current Working with Children’s Check (WWCC) or otherwise apply for one with the position subject to the outcome of the WWCC application
  • Employment is subject to a National Police Check review
  • The position requires the staff member to travel within NSW and work outside of normal business hours when needed.

POSITION SUMMARY The Capacity Building and Participation Officer position is a great opportunity to join a small dynamic and innovative team, while contributing to the advancement of social issues relevant to young people and representation of the Youth Sector who support young people across NSW. The position reports to the General Manager and works across the organisation to provide capacity building and outreach opportunities, engaging a range of stakeholders, including young people from diverse cultures, backgrounds and experiences, and the Youth Sector, to support the work of the organisation. The position supports the many projects and initiatives of the organisation through capacity building and engagement. Our shared Vision is to work towards a society where all NSW young people are supported, engaged, valued, and have their rights realised. As such, the Capacity Building and Participation Officer is passionate about our vision, and all aspects of the capacity building and engagement in the youth and community services sector.
