The Prisoners Aid Association of NSW is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated person for the role of Welfare Worker for its Inmate Property Service. The successful applicant will be responsible for the facilitation, receipt and actioning of referrals in collaboration with the Manager. The Inmate Property Service collects and stores a person’s property to ensure that it is available to them on release.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary Welfare/Social Science qualifications (TAFE or higher) or substantive experience in welfare service delivery.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary Welfare/Social Science qualifications (TAFE or higher) or substantive experience in welfare service delivery.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence and access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes.
  • Applicants must be fully vaccinated against COVID 19.
  • Prior to appointment the successful applicant must undergo a security clearance check with Corrective Services NSW and be assessed as eligible to hold an Authority to Enter Correctional Centres.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a small team environment

Desirable Criteria

  • Understanding of issues effecting inmates and people released from custody.
  • Understanding of issues effecting indigenous people.
  • Understanding of issues effecting people from linguistically diverse backgrounds.

The Prisoners Aid Association of NSW is a small community based not for profit providing services to people held in NSW Correctional Centres and those recently released. The Inmate Property Service assists people held in NSW Correctional Centres with the securing and storage of their personal belongings for the term of their imprisonment.
