Make a difference in the lives of women and children escaping domestic and family violence and homelessness in the Nepean.  The Haven – Nepean Women’s Shelter is a not-for-profit charity established to provide crisis accommodation for women and children and is part of the Women’s Community Shelter Network.  This role provides an opportunity to lead a small team committed to driving big social change.


The Executive Officer – Client Services is a senior leader in our organisation and reports to the Haven Board. This leader helps the Board by overseeing the operational aspects of The Haven's vision, strategy and goals. This role manages a staff team that provides services through both The Haven Shelter and The Haven Core and Cluster Project.

The position reports directly to the Board and collaborates with the Business Manager to ensure the efficient operation of the organisation.

The role also requires functional and professional working relationships with the WCS Hub and external partners and stakeholders. The primary purpose of the role is to:

  • ensure that The Haven provides high quality client services in accordance with Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) and WCS guidelines.
  • lead a high performing Client Service's team, guided by policies, procedures and resources that allow the delivery of a high-quality service response to women and their children who have been impacted by domestic and family violence and / or homelessness.
  • implement innovative service models and enhancements to expand the range of quality services provided by The Haven / WCS.
  • lead and monitor The Haven’s service delivery quality and accreditation processes.
  • oversee a highly collaborative working relationship with key service delivery partners, to maximise outcomes for women and children who have been impacted by domestic and family violence and / or homelessness.


  • relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, health or related social science discipline and extensive clinical experience working in the community sector at an executive or senior management level.
  • proven leadership experience and skills, including people and resource management, financial and business acumen.
  • excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to provide informed and timely information and advice, ability to construct written documentation to the appropriate audience and to promote and represent the organisation across a range of settings.
  • possession of a sound understanding of the issues relating to domestic and family violence within a social, political, emotional, legal, medical and economic context.
  • strong experience working within a funded service framework, including experience managing and maintaining relationships with existing funders and sourcing additional funding opportunities.
  • strong experience in working with a Board or equivalent, as well as with funding bodies and other key external stakeholders.
  • Proficient working knowledge of computer applications.
