We are seeking a supportive, proactive and driven Senior Case Manager to support the team at The Girls Refuge and undertake outreach case management activities across our crisis accommodation service for young women aged 13-17 at The Girls’ Refuge.


TGR’s Senior Case Manager will focus on improving service delivery, developing team capability, strengthening interagency relationships and providing quality outreach supports for young women aged 13-17.

TGR supports girls from a range of backgrounds and is seeking experienced staff who reflect the cultural diversity of our clients. People from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people from CALD backgrounds.

This role is a SCHCADS 5 position (salary range approx. $70,000-$80,000).

Detour House Inc’s The Girls Refuge (TGR) takes a holistic approach to empowering girls to regain stability and grow confidence in their daily lives in a safe and comfortable home-like environment, and develop independent living skills. We provide a foundation for girls to find stability so they are able to move on with their lives with freedom and choice. The Girls’ Refuge (TGR) provides crisis accommodation, case management, and support with transition into housing or reconnection with family in Sydney’s inner-west. We extend support under a 24/7 residential setting, and through outreach activities.

Position details

Bachelor or Master degree in Social Work or a related field, or minimum 5 years’ experience in a case management or team leading role, ideally working with young people

Essential Selection Criteria:

Bachelor or Master degree in Social Work or a related field, or minimum 5 years’ experience in a case management or team leading role, ideally working with young people

Experience in supervising, training and coaching team members in a social work or youth work context

Demonstrated experience in program development and / or coordination

Experience and demonstrated ability in providing high quality crisis intervention, case management and advocacy support for people with complex needs

Demonstrated ability to engage, build rapport with, and support young people to achieve positive outcomes

Demonstrated ability to apply a trauma-informed, person-centred and strengths-based approach to case management

Proven ability to maintain boundaries and respond to challenging behaviours

Desirable Selection Criteria:

Knowledge and understanding of child protection and other legislation relevant to youth specialist homelessness services

Compliance requirements:

  • Must be willing to be part of a rotating on-call roster for crisis accommodation including weekends
  • Clear Working with Children and National Criminal History Record checks (or willingness to obtain these prior to commencement)
  • Current First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain one)
