The Role

We have created additional part-time roles to service our regional community both in the Far North of NSW (1 role) and in the West: Wagga Wagga and Orange (2 roles) . The Carer Support team manage enquiries from prospective, newly engaged and existing foster, relative and kinship carers of children across NSW to help provide the required advice and support. A degree of casework is involved, and you will assist carers with information, support, advocacy and connecting them with training opportunities.

Who we are

My Forever Family NSW is a program that recruits, supports, trains and advocates for carers for children and young people who are, or were, in the out of home care system. Established in 2018, we operate through our not-for-profit organisation Adopt Change with funding from the  NSW Government.

Specific Skills

  • Demonstrated Case work management with accurate record keeping
  • Strong listening and communication skills, ability to identify core issues quickly and accurately
  • Ability to maintain a calm, empathic and professional disposition during various levels of client calls, including those which are sensitive in nature and/or with heightened emotions of clients
  • Problem solving skills with ability to self-manage and prioritise while also working in a team under appropriate direction 
  • Confidence in digital and online systems: working with data bases including recording case notes; working remotely when required; adept at navigating online environments including social media for instant messaging
  • Ability to apply sound judgement and make decisions involving the welfare of others
  • Telephone communication skills: sound understanding of and ability to articulate clearly in the English Language
    Essential Selection Criteria:

    Essential Experience

    • Background working with children or family in the out of home care system and/or  the Permanency Support Program, or relevant social welfare work
    • Cultural competence and proven track record in working with children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander 
    Desirable Selection Criteria:

    Desirable Qualifications

    • Bi-lingual
    • Degree qualified in Social Work, Community Work or similar, or equivalent Human Services qualification and experience
    • Contact centre/helpline experience
    • Track record of converting prospective suitably qualified Carers into Foster care professionals

    Employment Conditions:

    Please note that  our employees are  engaged  on a   fixed-term basis to align with the contracted term of our Program funding.  The current opportunities for regional carer support will be engaged on a part time  basis of between 2.5  and 3 days per week, with an opportunity for extension.

    Our regional roles operate remotely (ie working from home) with a requirement to travel to our Sydney Head office from time-to-time for professional development and attendance at relevant events.

    To be considered for roles with My Forever Family you will need to have (or be willing to undergo) a National Police Clearance and current Working with Children Check. You must also have a current driver's licence with the ability to attend carer related events. Please ensure you have work rights in Australia.
