Role of the OOHC Team Leader - Supported Independent Living (SIL):

The Team Leader SIL supports the OOHC Program and its clients through management of operations and therapeutic support within the OOHC program’s SIL placements. This role works closely with the Manager Out of Home Care, Manager Therapeutic Support to effectively guide the organisation’s operations and support within the program, catering for clients who are over the age of 16 and ready for supported accommodation.


The Team Leader SIL fulfils this role primarily through oversight of internal and external supports; overseeing planned and unplanned client moves; overseeing property acquisition and fit outs and responding to other property and operational issues within these settings. In addition, the role is responsible for the supervision, support and mentoring of Case Managers working with clients in this program. The position may hold a small case load of clients within the SIL program.


The role takes responsibility for responding to and resolving issues and changes arising within the program’s operations and therapeutic support needs, collaborating with case managers and managers to ensure clients’ best interests are served. The development, planning and implementation of the SIL living skills program also falls within this role.


The position consults and informs the Manager Therapeutic Support and Manager OOHC on matters concerning Case Managers and outcomes produced. The Team Leader SIL may be involved in risk assessments and behaviour management plans relating to home, daily routines and the engagement of additional support workers.


Importantly, the position is responsible for ensuring the care provided by Burdekin’s support workers is aligned with Burdekin’s Therapeutic Framework and sensitive to the child or young person’s developmental needs.

  • Degree in Social Work or other relevant tertiary education
Essential Selection Criteria:

Essential Criteria:

  • Demonstrated ability to use a proactive and sophisticated approach to problem solving
  • Three years’ experience of providing Case Management to clients including complex clients
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the assessment, support, case planning and management of children and young people at risk of homelessness
  • Two years’ experience working within OOHC, preferably within residential settings
  • Demonstrated experience in team leadership and management within the community services sector
  • Demonstrated experience of delivering positive, solution focused, trauma informed and innovative approaches to service delivery
  • Knowledge of the issues faced by children and young people in the Out of Home Care and wider Child Protection sectors
  • Ability to review, develop and implement necessary policy and procedural requirements  
Desirable Selection Criteria:

The successful Applicant will also have: -

  • Current Working with Children Check and National Police Check
  • Current NSW Driver’s License.
  • Good command of computer, including Microsoft office
