We are looking for a solicitor with a demonstrated commitment to social justice and an understanding of legal and social issues relevant to people of disadvantage.

The HoBAS Solicitor provides legal services, including legal advice and assistance to homeowners across NSW to resolve home building disputes.

This position reports to the Manager Solicitor - HoBAS.

  2. Services for the community (Community Legal Education).

About us

Western Sydney Community Legal Centre (WSCLC) is the largest CLC in NSW addressing significant legal and community needs across a geographically and culturally diverse community.

WSCLC’s legal team comprises of a Community Justice Civil Practice, a Family Relationships Practice, an Outreach Practice, a Care & Protection Early Intervention Practice, a Home Building Advocacy Service and Student Legal Services Practice in affiliation with the University of Western Sydney.

Position details
Essential Selection Criteria:
  1. Admission as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of the Home Building Act 1989 (NSW) and the Civil and Administrative Tribunal Act 2013 (NSW).
  3. Demonstrated understanding of the legal and social issues affecting people of disadvantage.
  4. Experience in working as a member of a team.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to social justice and equity principles.
  6. Ability to conduct Community Legal Education.
  7. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and computer competence.
  8. Ability to undertake policy and law reform work.
Desirable Selection Criteria:
  1. Experience in working with or providing services to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people.
  2. Experience in working with and providing services to people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  3. Familiarity with or an interest in the Western Sydney area.
  4. Familiarity with the work of community legal centres or other legal assistance services or a law practice.
Other Information:

This is a full time position (35 hours per week) based at Parramatta

Remuneration is based on: 

Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 Level 6, pay point negotiable  ($47.71 per hour - $49.91 per hour)

Plus 9.5% superannuation
