Position Description

Purpose of the position

 

The Finance Officer’s primary responsibility is to work closely with the Service Manager to efficiently complete all financial and accounting processes of the organisation to ensure that financial and statutory obligations are met. The Finance Officer is also responsible for the preparation of financial reports to the Board and the funding bodies, and in meeting annual audit requirements.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Process fortnightly payroll including salary sacrifice and superannuation payments for employees (team of 6-8)
  • Maintain employee records including wages increments and leave entitlements according to SCHCADS award
  • Process accounts payable and receivables accurately and in a timely manner
  • Maintain and process credit card and petty card transactions
  • Monthly reconciliation of bank and credit card transactions
  • Preparation and lodgment of Business Activity Statement to the ATO and PAYG
  • In consultation with the Service Manager, prepare annual budget and monitor expenses against the budget
  • Prepare and submit monthly financial reports inclusive of profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, budget variance analysis, budget forecast and recommendations relating to financial matters to the board
  • Preparation and submission of financial reports to funding body (NSW Family and Community Services) and Australian Charities and Not-For-Profits Commission(ACNC) and ensure contractual and compliance requirements are met
  • Liaise with auditors and oversee end of year financial audits
  • In conjunction with the Service Manager maintain asset registers
  • Ensure insurances are renewed and kept updated at all times
  • Ensure safe and secure filing system along with back up of all MYOB data and confidential files
  • Abide by regulation of Workers Health & Safety (WH&S) and organizational policy and procedures
  • Other duties relating to the ongoing financial accountability of the service as and when required

Marrickville Women’s Refuge, a not for profit organisation, is seeking an experienced and proactive Financial Officer to join our team. We are a small sized but an unique service with a highly motivated team. If you are a finance all-rounder who thrives in a dynamic environment, and you have a demonstrated experience in effectively carrying out end to end accounting and financial roles from bookkeeping to financial reporting, then this role is for you. The ideal candiate will be self motivated, possess a strong social conscience and demonstrated ability to work autonomously to complete all accounting and financial requirements in a timely manner.

    • Appropriate Accounting Qualification
    • Minimum 3 years relevant experience within a workplace environment 
    • Proven ability in general ledger reconcilations, including wages and in budgeting and forecasting
    • Demonstrated understanding of the Not for Profit Charity Requirements and Government Department funding and financial reporting requirements
    • Demonstrated experience in MYOB
    • Proven experience in preparation and lodgement of BAS and GST statements
    • Excellent organisational, adminstrative and time management skills and ability to work within deadlines
    • Ability to work independently and effectively within a small team, contributing positively to team operations and working relationships
    • Abide and follow the code of conduct at all times
