The Magistrates Early Referral into Treatment (MERIT) program is for clients with substance use problems who are also clients of the criminal justice system.  This 12-week program is funded through the Council of the Australian Government’s Illicit Drug Diversion Initiative (IDDI) Agreement.

As the successful applicant you will join our dedicated Odyssey House NSW team on a permanent full-time basis.  You will provide case management and counselling to a complex client group and deliver accurate and appropriate advice to the Magistrate in relation to a client’s history and their suitability to enter the Waverley Court MERIT Program.

Position details
Essential Selection Criteria:

•    Tertiary qualifications in Alcohol and Other Drugs Counselling and/or Social Work, or equivalent demonstrated experience
•    Understanding of how to work with clients involved in the criminal justice system
•    Capacity to provide assessment, case management, counselling and coordinated care to clients referred to the MERIT program
•    Provide client progress reports, documenting assessment, individual progress and details of any breaches to Police and the Courts along with other pertinent information 
•    Develop and implement detailed client case plans that address treatment needs and include client risk evaluation to self and others
•    Continually evaluate individual treatment outcomes and conduct case reviews
•    Ability to write high quality, comprehensive and relevant reports
•    Develop and maintain relevant professional networks and partnerships
•    Hold a current NSW Driver's License
•    Hold or have the ability to obtain a current Criminal History Check and Working With Children clearance
•    Unlimited right to work and live in Australia.
