The Youth Participation Officer will foster and embed excellent youth engagement practice within the Cumberland area. This position is responsible for establishing and promoting a model of accessible and meaningful youth participation to implement key actions in the Cumberland Youth Strategy and improve outcomes for local young people. The role is also responsible for actively working to promote an accurate and positive image of young people in Cumberland to the Greater Sydney area.

The position will utilise strong community engagement skills to develop, implement and evaluate a range of youth participation initiatives. This includes:

  • Supporting Council’s formal youth advisory committee to provide meaningful opportunities for young people to have a voice in Council planning and decision making processes and to oversee the implementation of the Cumberland Youth Strategy.
  • Developing capacity-building programs to support young people to design, lead and deliver youth programs, campaigns and research in Cumberland in response to local youth needs.
  • Building the capacity of other Council staff and local services to increase the participation of young people and families in the design and delivery of youth programs and services across Cumberland.
  • Assist with the implementation and running of local youth programs, such as girls-only programs in Cumberland.

You will have a high level of initiative and experience in excellent youth engagement as well as an ability to document and capture the needs, issues and concerns of young people in order to build our local evidence base.

The position sits within the dynamic Community Development Directorate and will have a high level of interaction young people across the Cumberland community and youth sector as well as collaboration with other sections of Council.

Salary: Employment is under the Local Government (State) Award. This position is placed in Grade 12 of Holroyd salary structure with a salary range of $1,273.43-1,464.48 per week. Commencement salary will depend upon qualifications, experience and competencies.

Conditions of Employment: This is a permanent full-time position. Flex-time or RDO's are available. This position will be located at the Merrylands Office and also deliver programs from Council Youth Centres/community facilities. Please note that the attendance at meetings and engagement activities after operating hours may be required.
