UNSW Global is seeking to appoint a Student Adviser to provide a range of support services to all UNSW Global students, across the student lifecycle, related to welfare and academic progression. As part of the Student Support team, the Student Adviser will facilitate group sessions and hold one-on-one meetings. The student Adviser is responsible for making effective referrals as required and works with the Student Support Manager in handling critical incidents. As part of this role Student Adviser will work closely with other members of Student Support team to plan, deliver and review orientation activities.

 

The successful applicant will have:

 

  • A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. social work/welfare, education or psychology) or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training
  • The ability to work independently and as a cohesive team member
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse students and communicate information to students in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to identify systemic issues arising from casework and areas that are in need of review or procedural updates

Mandarin language skills and experience within the international education sector would be an advantage!

Qualifications:
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. social work/welfare, education or psychology) or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training
Essential Selection Criteria:
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role, working one on one with clients and in

group settings

  • Demonstrated capacity to exercise sound judgement and discretion with complex or sensitive information and issues, and well developed referral skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships at all levels and ability to work effectively as part of a team, contributing positively to business operations and team building
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse students and communicate information to students in a clear and concise manner

 

  • Demonstrated high level organisation skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail, plan, prioritise competing demands and meet multiple overlapping project deadlines
  • Ability to identify systemic issues arising from casework and areas that are in need of review or procedural updates
  • Awareness and understanding of the needs of international students
Desirable Selection Criteria:
  • Experience working with international students in an Australian tertiary education setting
  • Oral and written Mandarin communication skills
  • Experience handling critical incidents
  • Experience working with clients with disabilities
Other Information:

As a member of the Student Support Team, the Student Adviser provides support and advice to UNSW Global students across the student lifecycle, including, but not limited to, enrolment, academic progression, UNSW pathways and personal welfare.
The Student Adviser is responsible for providing a safe space for students to discuss sensitive information and for assisting students with the resolving issues. Under guidance from the Manager, Student Support; Student Adviser will also case mange student critical incidents and monitor students who are under 18 years of age.
As part of this role Student Adviser will work together with other members of Student Support team to plan, deliver and review orientation and other Student Life activities
