We are seeking a part time (21hrs per week) Children & Family Project Officer to develop and provide dynamic and innovative programs for children and families in the Bankstown local government area. Project will be based at the Coolaburoo Neighbourhood Centre in Padstow south of Bankstown.


This is a new position and an exciting opportunity for a person who has a significant interest in working and improving the lives of children and families in the local area. The successful candidate must be highly motivated and experienced Children and family project officer.  The CaFPO must have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of issues affecting the target group and proven ability to maintain networks, work in partnership and system advocacy.


Candidate must aim to develop a variety of quality activities, projects and programs based in the social, educational and recreational aspects of children and family welfare.

Position details

Relevant tertiary qualifications in Humanities, Social Science, Welfare or other related qualification

Essential Selection Criteria:
  • Demonstrated experience with the delivery of, centre based, individual and group support programs to children and families for at least 3 years
  • Understanding of the community development process
  • Understanding of the needs and various issues affecting local families and  children
  • Understanding of the needs and various issues affecting the local community
  • Experience of, and demonstrated commitment to working with vulnerable families and children considered ‘at risk’ including those from CALD backgrounds  / disability
  • Experience of, and demonstrated commitment to working in a multicultural environment
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a community based organisation
  • Demonstrated experience in partnerships and outreached work including school based programs
  • Excellent knowledge of Funding Bodies and demonstrated ability in submission writing
  • Demonstrable ability in meeting deadlines, co-ordination and organisational skills
  • Experience in project management
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently
  • Ability to use computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated commitment to EEO principles; OH&S regulations and Child Protection Legislation
  • Excellent level of written and verbal communication skills
  • Current NSW Driver’s License
  • Own Car and comprehensive insurance.
Desirable Selection Criteria:
  • Fluency in community language
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Bus License LR
  • Knowledge of the local community and the resources available in the Bankstown local government area.
Other Information:

A probationary period of three months also applies.


Salary: In accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Industry Award (SCHCADS) Industry Award.
