WESTIR is currently seeking the right person to lead the next phase of its development as a major contributor to community development, social justice and civil society activities in Western Sydney. WESTIR is a data and research focused organisation whose purpose is to respond to issues affecting the people of Greater Western Sydney by gathering, analysing and interpreting information and ensuring that such information is easily accessible to the community. The Executive Officer is responsible to WESTIR’s Board of Directors for effective management of all facets of the organisation including:

  • Planning, monitoring, and reviewing operations,
  • Staff management and human resources
  • Preparation of submissions and reports to funding bodies
  • Oversight of research projects
  • Policy development and implementation
  • Financial management
  • Information and communications strategies

The role will suit someone with the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of agencies, services, sectors and communities using advanced interpersonal, and negotiation skills. Some experience in the community sector is preferred.

Position details
Qualifications:

A tertiary degree in Social Sciences or a related field or demonstrated skills and extensive experience to an equivalent standard

Essential Selection Criteria:
  1. Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in organisational management and governance including strategic planning, compliance, risk management and financial management
  2. Excellent people management skills and experience including supporting a collaborative staff team working on multiple projects at any one time.
  3. Highly developed knowledge and understanding of the wider community sector and the sociopolitical environment in which WESTIR operates
  4. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, ability and experience in negotiating, consulting and relationship building with diverse communities, other stakeholders and the media, including the ability to speak on behalf of WESTIR
  5. Experience in budgeting and organisation of annual audits and reporting to funding bodies
  6. Experience in leading research projects including client liaison, project development and completion
  7. Ability to work across a range of software platforms
  8. Understanding of and experience with data sources and analysis, in particular ABS Census and other ABS data
  9. A tertiary degree in Social Sciences or a related field or demonstrated skills and extensive experience to an equivalent standard
Desirable Selection Criteria:
  • Experience in the not for profit sector
  • Current drivers’ licence
