The Specialist Migrant Domestic Violence Officer is part of the organisation’s Community Engagement Division. It is funded by Multicultural NSW through the COVID-19 Emergency Relief Grant for Vulnerable Temporary Visa Holders and Special Migrant and Settlement NGOs stream It is responsible for providing case management support to women from refugee and migrant background(and their children) who are residing in the Blacktown LGA and are fleeing Domestic and Family Violence. The service will target holders of the following visa categories: Temporary working visa, Provisional visa, Partners, and/or Prospective marriage visa, Bridging visa.

The role will also undertake advocacy to ensure the women access effective support services. It will also raise awareness so that women understand their rights and responsibilities. This position will be on a fixed-term part-time basis (18 hours a week) and will end on 25/06/2021.

Key Accountabilities

• Comply with WorkPlan requirements.
• Provide casework services for clients as part of an integrated and person-centred approach within Community Engagement Division.
• Ensure reporting is accurate and submitted on time.
• Support and assist SydWest MS students and volunteers if required.
• Assist in organising events at an organisational and project level.
• Comply with all regulatory, funding standards and SydWest MS policies and procedures.
• Comply with all reporting requirements as directed by CE Team Leader: Women and Families.
• Work in partnership with a diverse range of local services.
• Participate in appropriate interagencies/networks as directed by the CE Team: Women and Families.
• Participate in community consultation, needs analysis, program development and evaluation as part of the Community Engagement Division.
• Ensure confidentiality and discretion to all service matters and client information.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
• Undertake other duties as required by the Community Engagement Manager/ Women and Families Team Leader.
• Ensure personal safety and have a positive attitude towards a work-life balance.

Essential Criteria

(needs to be addressed on a separate document)

• Tertiary qualifications in Community Services, Human Services, Social Work or related area and 2 years’ experience working within the domestic violence field.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the dynamics, complexities, and legal and social consequences of domestic violence.
• Demonstrated experience undertaking community development initiatives.
• Knowledge and understanding of criminal justice systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Child Protection issues.
• High level interpersonal & cross-cultural communication skills. Client advocacy skills with the ability to liaise effectively with all key stakeholders including clients, service providers and their communities.
• Demonstrated values of integrity, reliability, professionalism and a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
• Experience providing effective, strength- based and person-centered services/programs.
• Proficient skills in the use of Microsoft Office programs.
• Report writing skills, attention to detail and high level of accuracy;
• Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritise work;
• Current driver’s license and access to a full registered motor vehicle;
• First Aid Certificate required;
• Satisfactory Working with Children Check & National Police Check required.
