The organisation

Financial Rights Legal Centre (Financial Rights) is a community based legal centre in Surry Hills specialising in helping consumers of financial services, particularly credit, banking, insurance and debt.

The role

We are seeking to employ a full time enthusiastic Policy & Communications Officer for an 18 month contract with potential to renew subject to funding. The role provides an opportunity to contribute to the consumer rights advocacy work of Financial Rights in helping reform the banking, insurance and superannuation sectors. This would be a great job for a graduate or an individual in the early stages of their career who is interested in doing social justice work as well as coming up with creative communications solutions for a fast paced legal centre. The position will engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders. Please see the position description for further details on the role.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A can do attitude and be a real self-starter with a willingness to learn
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including an attention to detail, sub-editing skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Comfortable dealing with diverse range of stakeholders, government, other community organisations and clients
  • Ability to take initiative and accept responsibility as part of a small multi-disciplinary professional team
  • A strong work ethic and commitment to social justice
  • Relevant undergraduate tertiary qualifications such as media, communications, public relations or law
  • Ability to work with a variety of software including Word, Excel, website management tools, design programmes and other applications as needed
  • Comply with NSW current public health orders and requirements with COVID vaccination
