About the Role

The Community Safety Specialist role aims to implement Council’s Community Safety Strategy to promote Bayside as a safe community, minimise crime and anti-social behaviours and contribute to a connected and resilient community.

The role also includes developing projects under the Community Safety Levy (former Rockdale LGA area only). These activities involve working with the NSW Police and other relevant organisations to reduce opportunities for crime. Working in line with the new Community Safety Strategy, completing safety audits with the NSW Police. Implementation of Bayside’s Community Safety CCTV camera program and developing educational activities promoting personal safety.

You Can Also Expect To;

Within the area of responsibility, this role is required to;

Implement Council's Community Safety Strategy to minimise crime and improve safety while contributing to a well-connected and resilient community
Work strategically with other parts of Council to assist in implementation of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles in our public spaces to address crime and anti-social behaviour.
Implement actions to enhance safety in public spaces including overseeing a graffiti removal program and management of a CCTV program
Create partnerships between Council and external agencies and community organisations and other groups to develop and implement targeted community safety projects in response to emerging community safety issues
Implement or support a range of measures and programs to ensure all people in Bayside feel safe including young children, older people, those who are homeless and those experiencing violence
Research and collect relevant data to provide timely submissions and reports to Council and Government to inform decision making

About You

We are looking for someone who has;

Tertiary or other qualifications and/or equivalent experience
High Level Community Development skills
Strong understanding of contemporary practices and trends relating to community safety
Experience conducting evidence-based research
Well-developed communication, interpersonal and networking skills
Demonstrated high level initiative responds to customer requests with excellent customer service experience
Current Driver's Licence Class C
Security Licence would be desirable

Salary Range: From $84,848.82 to $95,030.65 per annum plus 9.5% superannuation
