Anti-Poverty Week 2005

Overview

Anti-Poverty Week will be held from 16-22 October 2005. The United Nations International Anti-Poverty Day is Monday, 17 October 2005.

The Week focuses on poverty around the world, especially in the poorest countries but also in wealthier countries such as Australia. The main aims of Anti-Poverty Week in Australia are to:

  • Strengthen public understanding of the causes and consequences of poverty and hardship around the world and within Australia;
  • Encourage research, discussion and action to address these problems, including action by individuals, communities, organisations and governments.

We hope that you and your organisation will mark the Week in your diary and begin thinking about activities which you could initiate to help promote your concerns about poverty and hardship. We also hope that you will contact other people and organisations in your network and encourage them to be involved.
