|Ministerial Taskforce on Aboriginal Affairs Community Consultations|
Update from Minister Victor Dominello, 14 August 2012
Thank you for your contribution to the work of the Ministerial Taskforce on Aboriginal Affairs. There was a great response from Aboriginal communities during our public consultation in January and February – more than 1,700 people attended a community forum and we received over 200 written submissions including some 4,000 individual comments. You can view the Consultation Report online if you would like to know what we heard.
Over the last six months, we’ve carefully considered what Aboriginal communities and stakeholders have said and this has guided the development of several proposals in the areas of education and training, employment and service delivery.
These proposals are outlined in our Progress Report which I have attached for your information. To report back to Aboriginal communities and stakeholders and to test if the Taskforce’s approach is on the right track, we are holding a second round of community forums in late August and September (a list of dates and locations is included below). I invite you to come along and give us your specific feedback.
To make it easier for communities to have their say, we have also developed a survey on the key proposals in the Progress Report. The survey will be available on our website and can also be filled out at the community forums.
I encourage you to read the Progress Report , forward this email to friends and family, attend a forum, and fill out a survey to let us know your views.
I look forward to your continued involvement. Partnership is vital for the changes we need to make together.
