Call to action on oral health PDF Print
14 June 2012
The NSW Oral Health Alliance is urging all NSW State Parliamentarians to get behind reform of Australia’s oral health system.

The Alliance has issued a call to action to members of Parliament to:

  1. Lobby their federal counterparts for a national oral health reform plan to ensure universal access in line with the National Advisory Council report
  2. Seek the release of the NSW Ministerial Dental Health Taskforce report and the NSW Government’s response
  3. Advocate the NSW Government for increased public dental funding in line with the NCOSS Pre-Budget Submission 2012-13.

Oral health is one of the areas of greatest inequity in the NSW health care system. There are around 120,000 disadvantaged people currently waiting for public dental treatment – more than for public hospitals. Disadvantaged and low income people in NSW have significantly worse oral health than the rest of the community, yet they also have the greatest difficulty in accessing dental services.

The NSW Government made an election commitment to prioritise reform of dental service delivery and improve dental outcomes for the people of NSW. Let’s hold them to account.
