Productivity Commission
DocumentsDate added
Each year, the Productivity Commission produces a Report on Government Services as part of the Review of Government Service Provision established by the Council on the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) in 1993. Although the Report aims to provide comparative data across jurisdictions as well as information on national performance, comparisons cannot easily be drawn because data is recorded differently across the States and Territories. Within these limitations, NCOSS has undertaken an analysis of the Report in key areas of interest to the sector - Aged Care and Community Care, Child Protection and Support Services, Children's Services, Corrective Services, Disability Services, Education, Health, Housing, SAAP and Vocational Education. NCOSS has also attempted to measure data from the Report against NSW State Plan Priorities.

While much of the data in the report is problematic for a range of reasons - not comparable; only partially collected; not measuring the right things - it does provide some opportunity to look at the performance of NSW in the provision of human services compared to the other states and territories. Work is continuing on improving the reporting framework and data collection methods so that over time performance measurement will become more useful.NCOSS has undertaken an analysis of the Report in key areas of interest to the sector - Housing, Child Protection and Out of Home Care, Children's Services, Education, Disability, Aged Care, SAAP and Health.
